RAID configurations over SATA often require drivers to be installed prior to the installation of the operating system. This is done to ensure the hard drives within the RAID array are utilized properly from the very beginning to avoid potential hardware conflicts later. Failure to install drivers prior to the operating system’s installation may mean ineffective or inoperable drives later in the computer’s lifetime. Installing SATA RAID drivers, however, is a very easy process which anyone can accomplish with only a few moments of time. Restart the computer with the Windows installation disc in your optical or floppy drive. Press any key when prompted to “Press any key to boot from disc…” after restarting the computer. Watch the bottom status bar of the Windows setup utility for the words “Press F6 to install a third party SCSI or RAID Driver.” Press F6 when you see this prompt.
