Recessed lighting, in reach of all budgets, remains a prominent detail in all finely crafted homes. It can be used for accent, general and task lighting. The installation process is straightforward and does not require an electrician, just follow the steps. If your project is in the framing stage, installing recessed lights is a snap. Be sure to buy an “IC” (Insulated Can) fixture, if your recessed light(s) will be installed in an insulated ceiling. Determine the center line for you lights and mark it on the ceiling joists. The can light will have a notch in the metal casing, which marks the centerline of the can light. You’ll match that line with you mark on the ceiling joist in a later step.
