How Do You Install A Pickup Into An Acoustic Guitar?
Amplifying acoustic guitars has grown in popularity since the “unplugged” days of the early 1990s. Prior to that time, acoustic guitars were miked, or outfitted with one of the few relatively primitive pickup devices available. While the basic methods have remained largely unchanged, the technology has advanced to include a wide array of choices and features. There are electromagnetic sound-hole pickups, similar to those used on electric guitars, and piezoelectric transducers, mounted directly to the sound board or under the bridge saddle. Remove the strings from the guitar to provide access to the sound hole and interior. Place the guitar on a flat, padded surface, such as a table covered with a towel. Remove the end pin with pliers by pulling and twisting outward. A small piece of padding between the pliers and end pin will prevent marring of the pin.
