There are also lift-and-turn drain plugs, foot lock plugs and roller ball plugs. These have no tripwaste plate to install. Once you know the type of plug you have, follow the appropriate set of directions in steps 6 and 7 to install your new bathtub drain. Press plumber’s putty around the underside of the flange that goes in the drain. You need to roll the putty into a snake and put it around the edge. Have someone hold the drain shoe and gasket underneath while you screw it into place. Have him hold the pipe so it turns toward the end of the tub with the overflow after the 90-degree bend.
