The success of your shower project depends on the waterproofing ability of your membrane shower pan. If you install the membrane shower pan incorrectly, you’ll have a leak and you’ll grow mushrooms in your shower, or worse, the shower subfloor rots away. If this happens, you have to tear everything out and start from scratch. If you install the membrane correctly, the shower lasts a long time. Measure the distance from the framework to the drain. You should already have the framework into place and the drain almost complete. You’ll need a clamping ring drain. It’s a two-piece drain. The top is the normal drain and the bottom is your backup in case the water manages to seep under the concrete and gets into the membrane. Take a measurement from the drain to the wall on every side.
