How Do You Install A CB Radio In A Jeep Liberty?

CB radios are recommended for a lot of off-road groups, as well as traditional uses. There are many ways to install this; the way presented here offers a cheap and effective way to do this if you are pressed for time and money, and use your CB radio infrequently. • Select a CB radio. For this exercise, the smallest Cobra was selected. It sells for about USD$35 at Walmart Online. You will also probably find it in local shops from $50-$60. There are other radios from Midland, Radioshack with similar dimensions. (Prices as at Sept 2007, feel free to update.) • Select a suitable location. A good location would be under the AC controls along side of the cigarette lighter. When taking the plastic off you’ll see that you’d have to cut into the wall behind the plastic, it’s not deep enough to fit the radio. It’s possible but not quick, and the mic cord would be in the way of the transfer case shifter. Other ideas: • On YouTube, there’s a video where someone mounted it behind the plastic below

Installing a CB radio in a Jeep Liberty may be more challenging than you think, because the best storage space idea–beneath the center dash with the AC and radio controls–is not optimal. There’s not enough room even after removing the plastic. So you’re better off finding another place. Find the best location in the Jeep, taking the CB’s size into consideration. The ceiling may work best, but you could try under either seat, on top of the dash or even on or in the glove compartment. Install the mounting into the car and the radio to the mounting. Since this involves drilling with screws, nuts and bolts, make sure the surface you choose can be drilled through safely. If not, you’ll need another location. Attach the wiring to the radio. Route the wiring out of the cab to the engine. In a Liberty, there should be a hole in the driver’s side carpet you can use once you remove the plastic trim. Connect the wire to the fuse box. Going right to the accessory block gives you the best power.
