Often the quickest and easiest way to update and improve the appearance of a room is to install ceiling lights. To install one switch to control two light fixtures, some basic prior electric knowledge is needed. Attic access will be necessary to add the electrical boxes in the ceiling. If no attic access is available, it is a possibility you will have to pull some of the drywall off your ceiling. Because single-pole switches are rated for 15 amps and run on a 120-volt circuit, you are safe to run 1,800 watts of light. Mark the locations for the two light fixtures and the switch. Trace around the templates that were provided with the “old work” switch and ceiling junction boxes. Cut the drywall from the locations using a drywall saw, carefully following the trace lines.
