How Do You Inspect Oil Seals For Contamination?
Oil seals are seals on the engine block of your vehicle that keep the oil where it’s supposed to be, in the engine or transmission, and away from places it’s not supposed to be, the ground. A variety of external conditions can cause the seals to fail; the most common cause being age. As the seals become older, they begin to dry out. As this happens, they shrink, and when they do, the seal fails and oil is able to leak out of the engine. This becomes a problem because if oil can leak out, then other contaminates can work their way into the engine, causing damage to internal components. To prevent this from happening, you need to inspect the oil seals for contamination. Climb under your vehicle. You may need to jack your vehicle up and place it on jack stands. Jack up the front of the vehicle, using the front jack points. Slide the jack under the front jack point and pump the jack handle until the vehicle is raised off the ground. Place a jack stand under each of the front pinch welds an
