Hook the pump up to the intake valve on the mattress. This will look like a round hole with a rim around it. The pump should have a nozzle that is made to insert in the hole. Pump air into the mattress from the hand pump until the mattress is firmed to your liking. Pull the pump nozzle out of the intake valve on the mattress. The valve will usually close up. However, some mattresses have a cap that you are required to place over the valve to keep the air in the mattress.
