How Do You Improve Youth Batting Averages?
Most youth baseball coaches are parents who volunteer to coach their kids’ teams. A majority of these coaches want guidance about ways to offer better instruction to their players. The most obvious area for improvement is hitting, as every kid wants to get the big hit. With a little patience and a consistent approach, you can easily help kids improve their hitting and increase their batting averages. The first step in increasing batting averages is not to focus on batting averages at all. Kids don’t need the pressure of worrying where they fit into the team’s batting average hierarchy. You, as the coach, can look at these stats to see where improvement is possible, but don’t focus on it with the kids. Explain that the goal in youth baseball should be hitting line drives–power can come when they are older. Observe each hitter.
