How Do You Improve Reading Comprehension Test Scores?
Being an English teacher who is required to ensure my students pass the state, standardized, reading test, I have some key tips to help you improve your reading comprehension test scores. I always let my students know that the reading they will have to do on the test is not going to hold their interest very well, but the comprehension is still necessary. By letting them know that they can’t skim and then guess the answers because of boredom, it helps to get them in the mind-set of accomplishing a task…the task of reading comprehension. When reading a passage, especially a test passage, the first thing I tell my students to do is read the title. This may seem like a no-brainer, but the title is something often skipped. The title will give you an idea about what you will be reading. I also tell my students to look at any pictures available and read any captions under the pictures. When doing so, you will see what the author is intending you to see for maximum comprehension. Once these
