Colleges want the best and brightest, but maybe you are getting worried that your vocabulary is a bit below “standard”. There is hope – you have recognized your need to bolster your vocabulary skills, and will be scoring top marks in no time. All it takes is a little patience, perseverance, and practice. The first step to improving your vocabulary is reading. Each week read a periodical like Newsweek, Time, or the Economist. These weekly editions pay greater attention to grammar and more broad reaching word usage. These periodicals are available at your local library. Ask your high school English teacher if they can help with finding titles or recommended “entry” reading from a local college. Read short stories or works that are required at the collegiate level.
