Tide pool exploration is a great way to check out some of the exotic creatures of the sea, while safely staying on dry land. Generally tide pools form when low tide occurs and small pools of water are left near the shore. In these pools of water, you’ll find a variety of plant and wildlife. Search at the right time of day. Tide pools are only visible during low tide, so you need to check your local weather and tide report to find out when to look for tide pools. Read up on the local wildlife that you may encounter on your trip. Depending on the area of the country you live in, you may see different creatures in the tide pool. In areas that are cooler, like New England, expect to see lots of crabs and small fish. Seaweed will also be prevalent. Warmer areas may have sea anemones, starfish, sea urchins and other creatures. Print out pictures or bring along a book if possible. If you have access to pictures, you may find them helpful when you try to identify the creatures in the tide pool
