One of the most confusing tasks in replacing or repairing a chandelier is identifying the wires that connect it to the electrical system. In addition to a hot wire that provides electricity to the light, there is a neutral wire. The neutral wire is the wire that carries electricity from the chandelier back to the main fuse box, thus completing the electrical circuit. Although it may seem confusing, there are several things to look for that will help you identify the neutral wire. Go to the main fuse box and shut off the electricity for the room that the chandelier is located in. Climb up on a ladder and detach the chandelier from the ceiling by removing the screws located on the base with a screwdriver.
