How Do You Identify Fruit Tree Leaf Rollers?
Keeping fruit trees safe from infestation is a test in vigilance and patience. A component of this vigilance is identifying threats to the trees. To identify a pest such as fruit tree leaf rollers, one must know what to look for and keep a watchful eye out for these malicious little creatures. Watch for long green worms that will wiggle wildly when you touch them. The coloring is light green on the sides of the worm and a slightly darker green appearing on the back of the fruit tree leaf roller. Despite the name “fruit tree leaf rollers,” these insects can infect other trees besides fruit trees, such as ash, birch, elm, box elder, maple, willow, rose and spruce. Most people assume they are strictly fruit tree pests. Look for moths with bell-shaped wings and brown and tan coloring. This is the adult stage of the fruit tree rollers. The typical wingspans of these moths are from 5/8 to 7/8 inch in length. Identify larvae that have black or brown coloring on the head. The larval stage of t
