How Do You Identify Frontotemporal Dementia?
Frontotemporal Dementia is a brain disorder that effects the part of the brain that controls a person’s behavior and personality. It can also lead to memory loss and can occur in people as young as 40. It can be difficult to recognize because the symptoms can vary from person to person. Here are a few indicators. Look for changes in behavior. A person affected by this condition may exhibit increasingly inappropriate actions, a sense of euphoria, a lack of judgment or become uninhibited, engage in repetitive compulsive behavior, or neglect personal hygiene. Pay attention to any changes in the person’s speech patterns. Some people with this condition gradually lose the ability to speak. They may have a hard time understanding what is being said and they may lose the ability to speak in complete sentences. Others may still be able to speak in grammatically correct sentences but they may make statements that are unrelated to the topic they are discussing. Watch for problems with movement.
