How Do You Identify A Banana Spider?
Two different spiders have earned the nickname “Banana Spider.” One is very aggressive and has a solid reputation for delivering a terribly painful and venomous bite, and the other is relatively harmless (meaning it can’t kill you – it still may bite!) Make sure you know the difference between the two, or you may be making a painful mistake. Appearance The aggressive Banana Spider (more accurately called the Brazilian Wandering Spider) is brown, with a body size of about an inch and a half (it’s legs span out from there). It is somewhat fuzzy, and it’s front fangs are often colored with red fur. The less aggressive Banana Spider (more correctly called the Golden Silk Spider) has a body up to three inches long and is shaped and colored a lot like a banana (hence the name banana spider).
