How Do You Hunt For Gold With A Metal Detector?
Modern metal detectors can detect gold fairly easily. As a beginning hobbyist, there is no need to replace your mid-level metal detector with a high-end model before hunting for gold. If, however, you find yourself drawn into the world of metal detecting for gold and want to do it more seriously, consider buying a model made specifically for gold. These machines will find smaller pieces of gold at greater depths than general all-purpose metal detectors. Visit an area where gold nuggets are known to be present. You can find such an area by doing an Internet search, consulting books or asking a local gold hunter or geologist. Turn on your metal detector, set it to “all metal” mode and ground it. To ground balance, hold the metal detector with the coil about an inch off the ground. Smoothly lift the metal detector until the coil is about a foot and a half above the ground, then lower it to its original height. As you do this, listen for any change in the volume of the metal detector’s noi
