How Do You Housebreak A Yorkie?
Yorkies, or Yorkshire terriers, are notoriously hard to housebreak. While most of them do catch on–eventually–there are, every once in a while, a few particularly hard nuts to crack. The key to training Yorkies is a great deal of patience paired with consistency. Always praise a job well done. Always reprimand a mistake but only if you can catch you dog in the act. Always make the praise more lavish than the reprimand; a single, clear “No!” should do the job. Set consistent outdoor potty times and stick to them. In particular, your Yorkie needs a chance to go outside as soon as she wakes up and as soon as you get home from work. Try to take your Yorkie outside at least once every two hours during the initial training period. Praise your Yorkie lavishly and reward her with a treat or a toy when she goes in the proper place.
