How Do You House Train Puppies In The WINTER?
When puppies are born during freezing weather conditions you have to become creative when it comes to house-training them indoors. Start out with a large cage called a kennel that the mother can give birth in so she doesn’t do it where you can’t see them. At nighttime place it next to your bed with a flashlight nearby. Birth may last all night and you may find yourself rushing her to the emergency room, so have that number handy just in case. If she doesn’t clean them you may have to suction their noses…(but they usually will). Normally puppies with eyes closed are cleaned by their mother licking them. They are together most all of the time right now. The number one cause of puppy death is catching a draft, so I put a bedspread over their kennel and pad it so they can’t scoot out and make sure the mother dog can come and go.
