How Do You House Train A 3 Year Old Dog?
Here is a trick I like to use when trying to teach a dog the proper place to go. First off, you need to get a crate for the dog with a towel to lay on, nothing more. The dog needs to go in the crate when you cannot watch it 100%. Make this its safe place. Every time the dog gets in the crate, praise and treat. It helps to leave the door open so the dog can go in and out whenever it wants while you are watching it. The second thing you need to do is put the dog on an eating schedule. Feed once in the morning, afternoon and night. Each time the dog eats, take it outside to use the bathroom. You take it out after every nap, every long session of crating, and after playing. Watch for the tell tale signs the dog has to potty, like sniffing and circling. Now, here is where you teach the dog to tell you to go outside.
