The blessing way, or blessingway, is rooted in Navajo tradition. This Native American tribe has a practice of holding a blessing ceremony for special occasions such as girls experiencing their first menstrual cycle (menarche), men leaving to join the military and women expecting a baby. For pregnant mothers, the ceremony is focused on the woman rather than being a typical baby shower. Female family and friends honor the expectant woman’s transition to motherhood with special rituals and activities.
