One of the most important statistics in football is the turnover ratio. Essentially this is how many times a team turns the ball compared to the teams it plays. No stat other than scoring more directly correlates to winning than turnovers. One very important aspect of the turnover ratio on offense is ball security for offensive players in high traffic areas such as the offensive line. Position the football within the crook of the elbow after receiving the football. Make sure the point of the football is directly in contact with the crook of the elbow. Hold the football as close to the body as possible. When a player carries the football away from the body this can lead to the defender stripping the ball and causing a fumble. Grip the open point of the football as firmly as possible. The players hand should securely cover the point of the football. Carry the football high and near to the body as possible.
