How do you hold down above ground pool covers in windy areas where the clips pop off?

There are several options available for holding the cover down on your above ground pool. Winter cover seal is a large roll of plastic material similar to kitchen wrap. It is wrapped around the edge of the pool and prevents wind from getting under the cover. The Cover-Loc Jr. system is another solution that you might want to try instead of traditional cover clips. These are two part clips where the male part clicks into the female part and locks the cover in place.

Making sure the cable and winch attached to the pool cover is secure and tight to cover above aground pool is your first step. If you think that clips will eventually break their clasps when a strong wind comes, you might consider placing sandbags or sand-filled coffe cans around the pool to fortified the stability of your above ground winter cover. These sandbags can be placed around the pool edges to withstand incoming storms.

We use a “shrink wrap” like companies use to wrap pallets of materials being shipped. Our roll is about 18″ wide. It doesn’t really shrink, but is stretchy and clings to itself like Saran Wrap. Wrap it around the edge of the poll, working your way over the top edge about 6″, then down around the side. Be sure you cover the edges of the winter pool cover. We’ve used this for 3 winters and it works great. Wind will still get under the cover and lift it a little, but you won’t have clips popping off or damage on the pool posts from the cable rubbing up and down. Make at least 3 circuits around the pool and tie off the end well. Good luck.
