Put your feet in the stirrups and grab the reins. • Take each rein in one hand; the right rein in the right hand and vice versa. • Pick up one of the reins with your index finger between the two separate reins. Hold the other rein in a loosely held fist. • It should look like this Hold your hands in the thumbs-up position, with your palms slightly downward and thumbs turned toward each other. • Hold your hands apart approximately 10-15 cm. It should never exceed the width of the horse’s neck. Keep your hands relaxed and keep them a little above the saddle.
