• Stay at home position. At all times during a game you should be in home position, which is halfway between the baseline and net, and the two sidelines. • Lead with the racquet foot. When you see the birdie coming right over the net, step with your racquet foot (right for righthanders and left for lefthanders), put your feet together, and lunge with your racquet foot. • Keep your racquet up when stepping and lunging. • Keep the racquet swing close to the net. When you lunge, your racquet should almost touch the net, just below the white tape. Catch the birdie and lightly lift it over.
