How Do You Hike With Kids On Flume Road Crossing?

0

Flume Road Crossing is located just east of Payson, Arizona in the Coconino National Forest’s Fossil Springs Wilderness. It is a fairly easy 8-mile hike round trip. Bring the kids along in clothes that they can swim in, and some sandwiches in a backpack to make a day of it. Tell people where the hike is and how long you expect to be gone. Bring plenty of water and snacks for the hike. Drive to Strawberry from Payson and then turn left onto Fossil Springs Road. After 8 miles, you will reach the Flume Trail trailhead. Follow the trail across Fossil Creek up the steep mountain to Flume Road. This road is closed to the public but it is still used by maintenance workers that keep the flume operating. Hike along the road until it ends at the dam where the water is coming from. The trail continues along the creek and leads to the swimming holes. Return by hiking back along the same trail.
