How Do You Hike Sundew Trail In Texas?

0

Enjoy a short, relaxing hike in the Big Thicket National Preserve with a visit to Sundew Trail. The special attractions of this one mile jaunt are two types of carnivorous plants, the pitcher plant and the sundew. A shorter version of the loop trail is accessible to wheelchairs, making Sundew Trail one of the most accessible trails in Texas. Take US 69-287 south from Woodville for about 17 miles to FM 2827. Take a right and go about 1/2 mile to a dirt road on the left with a sign that reads “Big Thicket Sundew Trail.” Drive about 1/2 mile to the marked parking area. Follow the short loop trail in either direction. Wet areas have boardwalks for crossing. An optional shorter hike is available that’s paved and wheelchair accessible. Look for carnivorous plants in the preserve–the pitcher plant and the sundew–pictured in the brochure available at the trailhead.
