How Do You Hike Lake Somerville In Texas?
Lake Somerville Trailway is an easy hike through gently rolling terrain in east central Texas. In the spring, Lake Somerville features open fields of wildflowers for hikers, punctuated with thick stands of oak, hickory and other trees. A broad, spacious service road provides much of the trail route, allowing multiple use of the trail for mountain bikes and horses. Drive east on US 290 from Giddings for about 7 miles to FM 180. Take a left on FM 180 and drive about 14 miles to the park headquarters. Park at the headquarters and find the marked trailhead at the back of the equestrian camping area. Follow the trail past Lake Somerville as it winds through some low hills and take a right onto a hiker-only trail to Flag Pond. Hike towards the Mill Pond camp at the right fork and follow the trail as it loops around the northeast side of Flag Pond. Keep left at the next two forks and continue looping all the way around Flag Pond to the start of the loop. Return to the trailhead along the same
