How Do You Hike Grass Valley, California?
Grass Valley lies hidden in the East Bay hills south of Oakland, providing a quick urban getaway to paradise. Grass Valley Trail is a segment of the larger Bay Area Ridge Trail. The trail meanders through fairly level terrain through the valley before joining with Brandon Trial. This is a pleasant day hike, especially in the spring. Take the 35th Avenue exit from I-580 in Oakland and drive east. When 35th Avenue becomes Redwood Road, continue past Skyline Boulevard and then 3 more miles to Bort Meadow Staging Area on the right. Take the dirt path as it winds slightly downhill from the trailhead for East Bay Skyline National Trail. Soon, the grassy surrounds change to eucalyptus and redwood trees. Continue on the trail as it winds slightly downhill for about 1.5 miles until you come to a junction near Stonebridge. Complete the loop trail by taking a left at the junction, and returning along Brandon Trail from Stonebridge. Make the hike in springtime to see carpets of wildflower blossoms
