How Do You Hide The Grain On Oak Cabinets?
Not everyone loves the look of oak cabinets. For some, the appearance of the wood grain is too distinct and dramatic. Unfortunately, wood grain is part of oak’s nature and cannot be removed with sanding or any other method. The best way to hide the grain in oak cabinets is with primer and paint. Painting cabinets will give you good surface coverage and alter the cabinets’ appearance. Remove the doors, drawers and hinges from the cabinet faces. Mark each piece so you remember where to return them when you are finished. Clean the cabinets with ammonia-based cleaner. Get into all of the crevices and corners, removing the grime from the cabinets. Wipe the cabinets with liquid deglosser. Use a clean rag to wipe on the deglosser and allow it to work on the cabinet finish for about five minutes. Wipe away with clean rags. The deglosser will remove any shine from the cabinets and will allow the primer to adhere to the surface without interference. Prime the cabinets with good-quality primer. A
