I love the look of wood furniture and floors, especially when they are new. Over the course of time wood floors and furniture can get scratched. Scratches can range from light surface scratches to deeper ones. These tips will not really help deep gouges. To hide scratches on dark wood use brown shoe polish. Try to match the shoe polish to the lightest shade of the wood to make it stand out less. For light surface scratches rub a walnut on the scratch, follow the line of the scratch when you do so. To cover scratches on cherry wood use a cordovan colored shoe polish. Cordovan shoe polish has red tones to it just like the cherry colored wood. To hide scratches on Oak use a natural or tan colored shoe polish. Again match the lightest shade of the wood to make the scratch less apparent. For Oak you can also use a 50-50 mixture of iodine and denatured alcohol, rub the mixture into the scratch with a soft cloth.
