How Do You Hide Gaps In Wood Stair Treads?
Wooden stair treads will show wear over time from repeated daily use. Gaps may develop over time between the tread and riser. You can conceal these gaps using carpet or rubber stair treads cut to fit over the entire tread. In addition to hiding small gaps, these coverings will provide extra traction on the stairs for added safety. Brush off any dirt or debris from the stair treads using a shop brush. A clean surface is necessary for installing stair tread covering. Place and align a carpet or rubber tread cover over each stair tread. Tread covers are typically oversized to allow you to trim to an exact fit. Trim the cover to fit each tread perfectly using a straight edge and utility knife top trim the back edge and the ends. Trim the tread cover on a work surface to avoid cutting into the stair treads. Pull the tread cover tight and staple the perimeter of the tread covers with a staple gun. Space the staples approximately 1 to 2 inches apart.
