It’s natural for teens to feel shaky and nervous in beginning phases of a job search. That’s where friendly guidance from parents can build skills and confidence. Here are five steps to get summer job hunting off to a winning start. Mention the Benefits. There are a myriad of benefits that come with having a summer job, from extra cash that allows more independence to added work skills that expose the teen to new career possibilities. Talk about all the benefits of a summer job, but don’t go over board. As you know, teens are sensitive and likely to resist if they sense you’re pushing. Think Big. Sometimes, we set limitations for our teenagers by saying, “That’s not possible,” when it would be more encouraging to say, “Maybe it is possible.
