How Do You Help Children Learn Their Math Fact Families?
Mastering the relationship between numbers in math fact families can be incredibly difficult for young children. It is hard for them to see the connections between the numbers. You can help your child by turning something difficult into something fun. Many children are familiar with playing “Go Fish.” Turning this familiar game into a learning tool is fairly easy. Soon you will be fishing for math fact families and enjoy learning them as well as spending some quality time with your child. Take your math fact flash cards and separate the deck into the math fact families your child is working on. Set the remainder of the cards aside. If you want a longer game, use all the cards. To start, you might want to use only two players. Add players as you become more comfortable with the game. Shuffle the deck and deal out five fact cards.
