The activities that children see everyday are not only a part of their conscience mind but their subconscious mind, as well. At night, after all the lights are out, sometimes their imaginations will create an entirely different world from bits and pieces of their memory. This new world may be quite scary for the child and thus a nightmare is born. Helping a child to get over a nightmare is something every parent will need to learn. Understand the fear. For a small child, the fear of something new is very normal. Getting angry or upset will only make the child feel as though they can not talk to you when they are having fearful thoughts. Explain the dream. As the child tells you about the dream, try to relate each characteristic with something familiar to the child, but one that is not threatening.
