Hanging curtains using rods attached to the outside of window trim is not always an option. Rod brackets need to be screwed or nailed to the outside trim to attach; this could be an issue if the home is rented. When curtains hang inside the window frame, the window frames the curtains, rather than having the curtains covering the window. When curtains are hung inside the window trim, attractive window trim is exposed to show ornate details as well as wood grains. Measure the distance inside the top of the window frame. This measurement is needed for the purchase of the correct size curtain rod. Choose a tension rod when you want to use a rod without brackets. Tension rods have a spring inside the rod. Push the ends of the rod together to decrease the length. Place the rod at the top of the window, inside the frame, and release the tension.
