How Do You Hang A Large Wall Map Or Poster?
You’ve bought a large wall map or poster — and just found out it will cost you over three times its price to frame and hang it. Here’s how you can hang it for much less, yet have it look just as good. Unroll your map and weight the corners for a day or two to allow it to relax. Cut one strip of decorative molding or frame stock for the top and one for the bottom of the map. Make the strips slightly longer than the map is wide, to taste. Stain or paint the strips if you’d like to add some color. Stain or paint the cut ends, or use a permanent marker to blacken them. Lay the map face up. Position the strips at the top and bottom where you want them to be, then temporarily tape the strips to the map. Use tape that can easily be removed later. Make sure the strips are straight and parallel to each other, and that they are centered horizontally. Any map that hangs above the top strip or below the bottom strip can be trimmed off later.
