Turn off the main power to the room that you’re working in at your home’s electrical panel. Place a ladder slightly under the old fixture. Unscrew the previous fixture’s canopy with a flat-head screwdriver to remove it from the ceiling. This will allow you to have access to the crossbar, electrical box and wiring. Twist off all connectors from any wiring to remove them. Now the old fixture can be removed. Unscrew the electrical box from the crossbar in the ceiling.
