Pope Gregory instituted a New Style calendar to take effect on Thursday, October 4, 1582 which made the next day Friday, October 15, 1592. However the whole world did not follow his edict on that day. Different countries switched calendars on different dates. Some countries are actually still using Old Style Julian dates today!
