Indoor gardening is an effective way to grow some plants year-round. The lights can provide a full sunlight experience to plants that need it without the risk of frost. Fluorescent lights are easy to obtain, do not require much electricity to run and give you more control over the environment for your indoor plants. Using grow lights is the way to go if you want to grow vegetables, herbs or flowers out of season. Place your plants on a grow table, and hang the light fixtures above the plants. For more mature plants, hang the lights six inches to a foot from the tops of the plants. If you have seedlings on the table, hang the lights an inch from them. Plug one warm white fluorescent bulb and one cool white fluorescent bulb into each light. Raise the lamps as the plants grow to maintain the six inches between them.
