How Do You Grow Spinach Under Lights?
Spinach is a cool-season vegetable that tolerates mild shade. These qualities make it a suitable choice for an indoor vegetable garden. Growing spinach indoors under lights lets you grow a fresh green throughout the winter. You can also grow it inside if you don’t have an area to make an outdoor garden. Use grow light bulbs to ensure your spinach thrives. Grow lights are fluorescent tubes that provide the proper spectrum for plants, and they are readily available where light bulbs are sold. Place the spinach seeds in a plastic bag and keep them in the refrigerator for two weeks before planting. Spinach seeds require a short cold period to germinate properly. Fill 3-inch seedling pots with a quality potting mix. Sow one to two seeds in each pot to a ½ inch depth. Mist the soil with water until it is evenly moist then cover the top of the pot with plastic wrap. Set the seedling pots in a warm room to germinate. Germination takes up to seven days.
