How Do You Grow Oriental Lilies In A Home Pocket Garden?
Oriental lilies are the star of any home flower garden. Planted in a conspicuous location, such as in a half-barrel near your front door, these magnificent flowers welcome and astound your guests. The blooms are large, vibrantly colored, and are extremely fragrant. Oriental lilies not only adorn your home and garden, they are used to make beautiful corsages and are wonderful cut flowers. SELECT YOUR GARDEN PLOT: Choose a sunny location in a spot that you or your guests can linger to enjoy the spectacular lilies. For added impact, I like to grow my lilies in a raised flower bed, such as a half whiskey barrel. To prepare the barrel, drill holes in the bottom and fill the barrel about 1/4 full of empty aluminum cans to promote good drainage, then add soil. If you are planting directly into the ground, till the soil well and remove any large roots. PURCHASE LILY BULBS: Flower bulbs are available in garden shops in early spring from garden supply, home improvement, and discount stores. See
