How Do You Grow Oranges In The House?
Dwarf orange trees–as well as most dwarf citrus trees–grow very well inside the house. They will produce fruit if cared for properly. The key to growing oranges in the house is keeping the plant in a sunny, warm area. Give the plant regular water. Dwarf orange trees can be found at many nurseries and garden centers, or they can be purchased through fruit tree catalogs or online. Fill a 16-gallon plant pot 3/4 full of potting soil. Remove the dwarf orange tree from the pot it was purchased in. Normally, this is a tall 4-inch square pot. Shake the tree gently to loosen the roots from any compacted soil. Center the tree in the 16-gallon pot. Add more potting soil until the tree roots are covered. Take care to leave the graft ball–if the tree has one–above the roots above the soil level. The graft ball needs to be exposed to keep the tree from growing into a full size tree. Add fertilizer formulated for tree stock. This can be picked up from a nursery, lawn care supply house or garden
