Gorgeous day lilies can be found growing wild – along roadsides and short distances from rivers and ponds. For the first few weeks of summer, they bloom profusely. Called ‘day lilies’ because each blossom lasts only a day, each plant will supply blooms for several weeks. Here’s how to create your own day lilybed for free. Scout out your supply of day lilies. Do this in the spring when they’re sprouting and easy to find, but not yet blooming. If you have a kind neighbor with extra plants, that’s a good start.
