How Do You Grow Eggplant In A Container?

0

If you don’t have a large backyard for a garden, you don’t have to go without homegrown produce. Certain types of produce can be grown in containers and receive sunlight from a windowsill or porch. Eggplants are considered especially suited to container gardening. Any large type of container can be recycled and used for growing eggplants. Select a container that will be big enough for the type of eggplant you are planting. The Texas A&M University Department of Horticultural Sciences recommends a 5-gallon container for most eggplants. Drill several holes on all sides of the container, about 1/2 inch from the bottom. These holes allow water to drain so the eggplants don’t become flooded when watered. It’s better to have too many drainage holes than not enough. Pour coarse gravel into the bottom of the container, approximately 1 inch deep. The gravel helps ensure the proper amount of water is drained without leaking. Dampen enough synthetic soil mix to cover the container 2 inches deep.
