How Do You Grow Dead Nettle (Lamium)?
Dead nettles are ground cover perennials with leaves that are marked in silver. The flowers – yellow or pink – appear next to the leaves. Plant dead nettle in part shade in well-drained soil. Add a light application of organic fertilizer to the planting hole. Place the plants no deeper than they were growing in the containers. Set the plants 9 to 12 inches apart. Mulch around but not on top of the plants with 3 inches of organic compost. Water well until soil is completely moist. Look for plants at nurseries in spring and summer. Buy dead nettle in 4-inch to 1-gallon containers. Choose healthy-looking plants with signs of new growth in leaves and flower buds. Remove old foliage in spring, using bypass pruners to cut off the old stems. Apply a light application of organic fertilizer on top of the soil in early spring (follow package directions).
