How Do You Grow Climbing Plants From Root Cuttings?
Climbing plants add beauty and variety to homes and landscapes, and require very little space to grow. A few climbing plants can be propagated from root cuttings, which is an easy and inexpensive way to start. All you need is the right species and a few simple tools to get them growing in your garden. Dig the root. The hole to dig up the roots of the existing plant should be about 18 to 24 inches away from the base of the mature plant. This will give you roots that are about one-half inch thick. Dig carefully to disturb the root system as little as possible. Remove sections of root. Root sections should be about 8- to 12-inches long. The top of the root section (nearest the plant) should be cut straight across, while the end should be cut at an angle. Use pruners to get a clean cut. Keep it moist. Place your root in a plastic bag with enough moisture so that it won’t dry out. Cut it into smaller sections. Wash the root first. Cut it into several smaller pieces, making a horizontal cut
