How Do You Grow Celestial Fig Trees?
The Celestial fig, also known as Blue Celeste and Sugar fig, has a very sweet flavor compared to other figs. The tree ripens in June, but in warmer regions the celestial fig tree produces a second crop in early fall. Gardeners like the tree due to its resistance to cold temperatures and resistance to beetles which infest other fig trees. Celestial fig trees only grow in geographical areas that do not have harsh winters. Plant the celestial fig tree seedling in an outdoor location that receives full sunlight for the majority of the day. Choose a location away from other trees since the fig tree will eventually grow outward. Use a shovel to dig a hole that is approximately 1 foot deep by 1 foot wide. Place the seedling into the hole and cover the roots with soil. Place a 1 to 2-inch layer of mulch around the base of the tree to help conserve moisture, as well as to protect it from cold temperatures.
