The Royal Poinciana is a tropical, deciduous tree that originated in Madagascar. In the United States, they are more suited to southern California, southern Florida and Hawaii. Topped by striking red blooms in the summer, this tree can grow to 40 feet tall and 60 feet wide. The fruit of the Royal Poinciana looks a bit like a large bean pod, about 18 inches long and 2 inches wide. They can be found on the ground in the spring.
